Comeback Super Kings finally made a comeback against Delhi Capitals at their home ground Chepauk. Chennai Super Kings defeated Delhi Capitals by 26 runs and finally got their first 2 points and finally kick-started their IPL 2026 campaign. However, in this match too, Chennai made many big changes in their playing XI. We have always seen that CSK finds their best XI in their first IPL match and then sticks to it consistently throughout the season, but this thing was not seen in the last few years. But can this be the best playing XI of Chennai Super Kings this season? And can these young CSK players take the team forward from here? Will Chennai be able to maintain its winning streak from here?

Positive Signs for Chennai Super Kings from this Match

  • Attacking Sanju is Back Finally

After 3 flop matches, Sanju Samson made a tremendous comeback and scored the first century of IPL 2026. Which is a very positive sign from Chennai's point of view. We have seen that ever since the impact player rule was introduced in IPL, the dynamics of IPL have completely changed. The concept of power hitting has been added to the Power Play. In this  genNEXT season of IPL, the Power Play decides the approach of the teams. But if we talk about Chennai Super Kings, ever since this impact player was introduced, CSK has been completely failing to dominate in the Power Play, whether we talk about the first three matches of IPL 2026 or the last two seasons. But Sanju's performance against DC showed that if he's set, he can use the powerplay very well. Chennai scored 61 runs in the powerplay against DC without losing a wicket. Sanju was in his attacking form, while Ruturaj, on the other hand, was trying to hold on to wickets by staying at no-striker’s end. If Sanju Samson continues this form, Chennai can not only post big scores this season but also chase them down.

  • Jamie Overton’s All-Round Performance

Jamie Overton: The underrated English player is impressing everyone with his all-round performances. Whether it's his 4-18-4 figures against DC or his 43-run knock in CSK's first IPL 2026 match, which saved Chennai from a humiliating total. If he continues to contribute, Chennai will look very strong in the upcoming matches.

  • Youngsters Taking the Charge

The young talent of Chennai Super Kings is ready to roar. Be it Gurjapneet, who took the wicket of DC captain Axar Patel on the first ball of his debut match, or Anshul Kamboj, who is impressing everyone with his bowling and is performing consistently. On the other hand, Dewald Brevis, Sarfaraz Khan and Noor Ahmed are continuously giving their best contributions in the field. Although Dewald Brevis is yet to contribute with the batting, CSK and their fans have high hopes from him this season.

Negative Signs for Chennai Super Kings from this Match

  • Too Many No-Balls in a Single Match

A consistent issue is visible in the bowling line-up of Chennai Super Kings in the last 4 matches    and that is bowling too many no balls. In the CSK vs RCB match, in return of Anshul Kamboj's no-ball, Tim David played an unbeaten inning of 70 runs and RCB scored 250 runs. Due to which Chennai lost by 43 runs. And now talking about the CSK vs DC match, there too, along with Anshul Kamboj, Aqeel Hussain who was making his debut also bowled 2 no balls, although those no balls did not prove to be so costly but Chennai Super Kings would definitely like to pay attention to this issue.

  •  Ruturaj Gaikwad Playing Too Slow

Ruturaj Gaikwad hasn't regained his form yet, making it difficult to maximize the powerplay. Even against DC, Sanju Samson single-handedly dominated the powerplay, while Ruturaj, on the other hand, played a defensive knock. But now there are two things to consider: first, is Ruturaj himself playing slow to save wickets, or is this a decision of the team management? Because if this is the team management's decision, then it needs to be fixed as soon as possible. The way IPL 2026 has started clearly shows that you'll need to score at least 200+ runs in every match if you want to defend. And the key to doing that is maximizing the powerplay. If both CSK openers can do that, the stage will be set for the upcoming batsme
